Unveiling of Mural Installation at Solace

March 7th 2013, San Diego CA.- Please join us for an evening with SOLACE for the unveiling of the 12′x7′ mural installation done by Gloria Muriel.

The event will take place next Wednesday March 13th from 5pm-8pm at Solace and the Moonlight Lounge located at 25 East E Street, Encinitas CA 92024.

“-My inspiration for this piece was the meaning of the word Solace: to find comfort in sorrow. The space itself has a beautiful energy that already gives you a feeling of freedom an inner peace. I just had to represent that feeling through my art. I found solace while painting Her. This was a beautiful challenge and experience and I am more than happy to share it with everyone.”

October 2012, San Diego, CA.- Great collaboration wall with Maxx Moses at Cirello Gallery in North Park, San Diego. Most of the work was done during night time. I have to say you get to meet interesting people roaming the streets during late hours of the night .

Azalea Park Art Passage

September 2012, San Diego, CA.- Final session with Monstrinho and Michael Haff to finish Azalea Park, a neighborhood community within City Heights in the greater San Diego, California area. This wall started around August of last year (2011) when a friend Marisa Gallego mentioned she had a wall at her neighborhood that was vacant, I then called Monstrinho and we decided to do a collab. Since that time the wall has recorded the talents of other great artists like Beth Emmerich, Tecui and Eloaf.
The community has been very receptive to the wall and locals are now talking of declaring it as the official community art passage.

Friends Wall in Tijuana

September 2012, Tijuana, BC. Mexico.- September I was very happy to get a visit from a good friend of mine Tanya Mensen, while on her visit we decided to take our talents and those of others south of the border. The initial plan (if there ever was one) was to enjoy a quiet day painting in Tijuana, it ended up being a great collaboration between five individuals connecting with the community in a live setting using art as the communicating tool.

Thank you to all the participating artists Michael Haff, Monstrinho, Tanya Mensen and our Tijuana wall scout El Norteño, thank you friends for a great time.

Also thank you to the family who donated this amazing wall can’t remember their names but THANK YOU. In case you care to visit, the wall is located in La Colonia Soler in Tijuana.

New Mural at Azalea Park part of residents’ efforts to improve area canyons

June 29th 2012, City Heights.- At the same time a mural was going up on University Avenue and 43^rd Street, another piece of public art was taking shape not far away. The centerpiece of the work is a large painted map (some are calling it the City Heights Urban Wilderness Trail) which depicts the City Heights Canyons’ and Community Alliance’s vision to link the area’s canyons through a series of upgraded trails.

The mural was suggested by Azalea Park resident Katherine Eaton as a way to draw attention to the potential of City Heights’ canyons. Long known as places to avoid because of gang activity and homeless encampments, the canyons are being reborn as urban oasis due to the efforts of organizations such as San Diego Canyonlands. The vision is to change perceptions of the canyons as places for recreation and nature watching.

The mural is the volunteer work of artists Gloria Muriel and Beth Emerich, with supplies donated by Frazee Paints. The owners of El General Market donated the use of the side of their building, which intersects Fairmount Avenue and Jamie’s Way. FaceLift organizer Linda Pennington helped secure funding for the project.

The mural also contains an artistic impression of mother nature and plants and wildlife found in City Heights canyons.
